Are we freezing because of global warming?

The desperation with which the discredited preachers are touting the settled science of ‘global warming’ is leading to more and more absurdity.  These people continue to stick with their tried and failed claims, oblivious to the fact they are now being widely mocked  for it.  The recent headline from the UK Telegraph pretty much sums it up:

The insult to the collective intelligence of those who know the term ‘settled science’ is about as valuable in the lexicon as ‘documented reincarnation’ is magnified by the condescending tone this nonsense is delivered in.  Anyone still clinging to this preposterous notion after all these years and all the contrary evidence has no credibility as scientist, journalist or sentient being.  Perhaps that’s a little harsh.  Anyone who considers the evidence for anthropomorphic global warming to so overwhelm contrary indications as to warrant sweeping global legislation that will result in a massive increase in taxation and government control (with a corresponding devastation of industry everywhere except the developing world), is brain dead.

A sign that the proponents of this terrifying threat are losing steam, followers and their minds, can be found in embarrassing headline like that that above.

Maybe they’re right.  Scary thought, but it has to be considered.  If they are, one has to wonder:

Are we perfectly comfortable because of global warming?

Are we thinkin’ a couple degrees higher might be nice because of global warming?

Are we going to get a little sweater to put on because of global warming?

Do we wish we had a hat because of global warming?

Is it raining because of global warming?

Would this be a nice day for a walk because of global warming?

Are we drier because of flooding?

And what about direct effects on us?

Are we living longer because of global warming?

Are we getting taller because of global warming?

Are we getting hairier because we’re freezing because of global warming?

Will we all end up as Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) because we are getting taller because of global warming and getting hairier because we’re freezing because of global warming?

It’s time this conversation ended.  Global temperatures fluctuate and have since time immemorial.  To base our behaviour on the notion that human beings are the cause is misguided and dangerous.  It makes enemies out of groups of people vying for influence on policy and the gulf created makes it impossible to effectively come together to reduce the actual harm caused by our actions, namely pollution.  Pollution and emissions do have real consequences to our environment, but those consequences do not include turning us into Bigfeet.

Former President Bill Clinton enthusiastically weighed into the blistering national debate on immigration today with a resounding assertion that America needs more immigrants — not fewer — to ensure its long-term fiscal future. No one is talking about NO immigration…they’re talking about no ILLEGAL immigration.

At a symposium on deficit reduction today (see my earlier story), Clinton said that one key to avoiding massive debt is to maintain a good ratio between people paying into the system, and those receiving payouts (through such programs as Social Security.)  Ya, how about a ratio of 1 to 1?  As it is 50% of the population pay nothing in taxes.

That means more jobs and more people working, he said. “Which to me means more immigrants.” The unemployment rate is sky high…reducing it means reducing the ratio between the number of available jobs and number of available employees.  You don’t reduce unemployment by increasing the number of people looking for jobs.

Clinton said he supports immigration reform as proposed by President Obama or as supported by Sen. John McCain before he changed his mind.

Clinton spoke glowingly of the immigrant experience in the United States. “We’ve got somebody from everywhere here, and they do well,” he said.  How eloquent.

And looking at the overall budget numbers, comparing money in to money out, “I don’t think there’s any alternative for us but increasing immigration,” he said. “I just don’t see any palatable way out of this unless that’s part of the strategy.”

Clinton didn’t mention it, but it’s not just legal immigrants who contribute to the plus side of the Treasury’s balance sheet. In fact, undocumented immigrants are even more lucrative for the government, particularly Social Security. Many undocumented workers have payroll taxes automatically withheld from their wages, but because they use fake numbers, never collect the benefits.  See the leap here?  From a statement that starts with “In fact” as though that lead in makes it actually be a fact (typically used by liberals…other the similar ‘the fact is’ or ‘the truth is’) it goes on to make a preposterous claim that illegal immigrants (not the euphemistic ‘undocumented workers’) are more lucrative than legal immigrants.  The evidence?  “MANY” undocumented workers have payroll taxes automatically withheld from their wages, but because they use fake numbers, never collect the benefits. Really?  How many?  Where is the evidence for this?  Does the number who go this route actually make up for the countless that don’t?  What about the fact that their families are all here, too?  What about the fact that MANY (see, I can do it too) of the illegals work but also collect welfare?  What about the fact that MANY of these immigrants (legal and illegal) send a great portion of their earnings back to their homeland instead of spending it to help the local economy?

What a crock.

There have been a lot of insane moral equivalency arguments coming out of Washington in the past year, but this one is the most unbelievable.  What a disgrace.  This should be the end of her career…but unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in.
